Idolos are a band from France that has been featured before in this zine and plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "Naa" which will be released in may by Non Posse Mori Records.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while the solos and leads also add in a great amount of melody and also takes the music into more of an atmospheric direction. Synths are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the songs at times and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can b e heard.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the tremolo picking also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Clean playing also being added into some parts of the recording along spoken word word parts also being utilized briefly briefly as well as most of the tracks are very long and epic in length. the music also has its progressive moments and clean vocals can also be heard briefly on the closing song. . The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Aztec and Mayan themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Idolos and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The Tricks of lady Blood". 8 out of 10.
