Nachtig are a solo project from Germany that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a very atmospheric and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of his 2021 album "Der Stille Wald" which will be released on March 21st by Purity Through Fire.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while all of the vocals are also high pitched depressive black metal screams. All of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the solos and leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic style and clean playing can also be heard briefly.
When synths are utilized they also give the music more of an atmospheric feeling while all of t he drum beats are programmed. The songs also mix in some influences from the mid 90's to 2000's depressive style but keeping it modern at the same time as well a s all of the music sticking to either a slow or mid paced and when when tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
On this recording Nachtig remains true to the atmospheric and depressive style of black metal that he had established on his previous release. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover melancholy, depression, hate, misanthropy, love, night and nature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nachtig and if you are a fan of atmospheric and depressive black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Der Stille Wald" and "Auf Ewig Mein". 8 out of 10.
