France's solo project Gargowitch has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of black, doom metal and noise and this is a review of his 201` album "Avidee" which will be released in April by Devoted Art Propaganda.
Field recordings start off the album along with some clean playing a few seconds later before going into a heavier direction. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs while the riffing also adds in some dissonant structures and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while harsh noises are also added into some parts of the music. When guitar leads are utilized they are also done in a very distorted style along with a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
A lot of the music also has an improv feeling along with some of the vocals also showing an influence of the depressive style as well as getting deep and demonic sounding in some parts of the recording. Ritualistic sounding bells can also be heard briefly as well as one song also introducing clean playing onto the album, most of the music also sticks to a slower direction with only a small amount of fast playing and blast beats being added on one of the songs. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover Death Of Monotheism, Cannibalism and Goetia themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Gragowitch and if you are a fan of black, doom metal and noise, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Le bûcher d' Agrile" and "Magique holo". 8 out of 10.
