Nordjevel are a band from Norway that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays an icy cold form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "Fenriir" which will be released in May by Indie Recordings.
Nature sound start off the ep before going into a heavier musical direction while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with most of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them and t he solos and leads are done in a very chaotic yet melodic style.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard while the tremolo picking also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some of the riffing also showing influences of pagan and Viking metal.
The songs also mix the modern and old school Nordic styles together along with all of the music sticks to a heavier direction, dissonant structures are also added into some of the riffing and they also bring in a cover of Possessed's "Fallen Angel". The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Norwegian and English and cover Norse Mythology, Darkness and Self Destruction themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nordjevel and if you are a fan of Norwegian black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fenriir" and "Fallen Angel". 8 out of 10.
