Embryonic Slumber are a duo from Finland with members from Vargrav and Druadan Forest, Sargeist and Desolate Shrine that plays a cosmic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "In Worship Are Blood is Buried" which will be released on March 19th by Werewolf.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album along with some ritualistic chants while synths are also added into some parts of the recording and also give the songs more of an atmospheric and cosmic feeling. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and spoken word parts can also be heard on some of the songs.
The atmospheric elements also mix in with the heavier sections of the songs while the vocals are mostly high pitched yet tortured black metal screams. All of the musical instruments on the album also have a very powerful sound to them along with some ambient elements also being added into certain parts of the music.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing and all of the tracks stick to either a slow or mid tempo direction and as the album progresses a brief use of female vocals can also be heard, industrial and electronic music style beats can also be heard on the closing track. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover cosmos, darkness, apocalyptic and occult themes.
In my opinion Embryonic Slumber are a very great sounding cosmic black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unwavering Flame" and "An Oath To Devotion". 8 out of 10.
