Sleepwalker now an international band with members from Japan, Russia and the United States has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of an experimental and ritualistic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Noc Na Krayu Sveta" which will be released in April by Sentient Ruin Laboratories.
Ritualistic soundscapes and chants start off the album while the music also adds in a great amount of drones. Both of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the songs also having their experimental and avant garde moments and you can also hear touches of Middle Eastern music at times.
At times the music gets psychedelic sounding while jazz style saxophones are also added into some parts of the songs. When guitar leads are utilized they are also done in a very distorted style along with high pitched black metal screams also being a very huge part of the recording and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can also be heard.
A lot of the music also sounds improvised along with some spoken word parts also being utilized briefly as well as both of the tracks also sounding very different from each other, touches of krautrock can also be heard at times. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sleepwalker and if you are a fan of experimental and ritualistic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Boundless Love/Resilience". 8 out of 10.
