Norway's Nattverd have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of an aggressive, melancholic and epic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Vandring" which will be released in April by Osmose Productions.
Movie and spoken word samples start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. The riffs also add in a lot of melody along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams and a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while spoken words can also b e heard briefly. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style along with the music also capturing some of the old school Norwegian vibe.
At times the music also gets very melancholic and epic sounding along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style as well as one of the tracks also introducing keyboards onto the album which also gives the music more of an atmospheric feeling. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Norwegian and are a concept album based upon the Black Death plague.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nattverd and if you are a fan of aggressive, melancholic and epic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Det bloer paa alt som spirer" "I moerket slumrer ravnen" and "Langtder borte i det fjorne". 8 out of 10.
