Ætheria Conscientia are a band from France that plays a very atmospheric, cosmic, experimental and progressive form of black metal with some elements of doom metal and this is a review of their self released 2021 album "Corrupted Pillars Of Vanity" which will be released in April.
Sci-fi orientated soundscapes start off the album along with some cinematic sounding synths while the acoustic guitars also gives the songs more of a progressive feeling when they are utilized. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and tribal style percussion's can also be heard at times.
Saxophones can also be heard in some parts of the recording while the vocals are mostyl high pitched black metal screams. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the tracks also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
The slower sections of the songs also add in the heaviness of doom metal along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody. Growls can also be heard in some parts of the recording as well as the guitar solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized.
At times the music also gets very experimental and atmospheric sounding as well as all of the tracks also being very long and epic in length. Touches of progressive rock can also be heard in certain sections of the album along with some throat singing and clean vocals also being utilized briefly and there is also some session work from members of White Ward. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover science fiction and ritualistic themes.
In my opinion Ætheria Conscientia are avery great sounding experimental, progressive and cosmic mixture of atmospheric black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Corrupted Sacrament" and "Collapse in Penance". 8 out of 10.
