Arsonists Of Lucifer are a band from Sweden that has been featured before in this zine and plays a militant form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 cassette compilation Total Destruction/Depths Of Evil" which consists of ep's that where released in 2018 and 2019 and will be released in May by Void Wanderer Records.
Spoken word samples start off the compilation along with some apocalyptic soundscapes in the background before going into a heavier direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
The music also adds in a decent amount of 90's influences while melodies are also added into some of the riffing. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very chaotic style along with some of the tracks also adding in a small mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
A couple of the songs are also being very long and epic in length, spoken word samples also return on a later song as well as a brief use of synths along with the song on the second ep before almost 30 minutes in length and starting out with some Gregorian chants and tortured voices in the background before going into a more brutal and chaotic direction and also sounds very improvised. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Violence, Murder, War, Satanism, Anti Christianity themes.
In my opinion this is a very great sounding collection from Arsonists Of Lucifer and if you are a fan of raw and militant black metal, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Manhunt" and "The Unholy Crusade". 8 out of 10.
