Ohio's Plaguewielder have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of black, death metal, post rock and goth and this is a review of their 2021 album "Covenant Death" which will be released in April by Disorder Recordings.
Clean playing starts off the album before going into a heavier direction while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style. Vocals are done in mostyl and angry and shouting style as well as some black metal screams along with the riffing also adding in some elements of black'n'roll.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some synths also being utilized briefly and the music also mixes in some post rock and gothic influences as well as one of the tracks also being an instrumental, some of the riffing also adds in the heaviness of death metal.
On this recording Plaguewielder takes black, death metal, post rock and goth and mixes them together to create something that is very different sounding from previous releases. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics covers the expression of sadness through suffering and the anger that follows closely behind.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Plaguewielder and if you are a fan of black, death metal, post rock and goth, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "At Night They Roam" "Covenant Death" and "Forever We Shall Be". 8 out of 10.
