Mondfinsternis are a band from Russia that plays a very epic and ambient style of pagan/black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Where The Heaven Ends" which was released by Crush The Desert Records.
A very atmospheric and epic sounding synth starts off the album along with some programmed beats a few seconds later that also brings in the atmosphere of a fantasy movie soundtrack as well as bringing in elements of medieval folk music and a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
When the music finally gets heavy it mixes in with the dungeon synth style while also bringing in grim yet depressive black metal growls and some of the tracks also bring in a small amount of acoustic guitars while a later song brings in a brief use of folk instruments and they also bring in a couple of instrumental ambient tracks and when guitar leads are finally utilized they stick to more of a melodic style and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid paced musical direction.
Mondfinsternis plays a style of pagan/black metal that is very atmospheric and epic sounding while also mixing in elements of ambient and dungeon synth which also makes the songs stand out a bit more, the production sounds very dark and heavy, while the lyrics cover Norse paganism and heathenism themes.
In my opinion Mondfinsternis are a very great sounding epic and ambient pagan/black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Chosen Of The Gods" "The Warriors Immortality" and "Your Names". 8 out of 10.
