Underdark are a solo project from Ukraine that plays a mixture of occult black metal and electronic music and this is a review of his 2008 ep "Ynomrah" which was re-issued in 2016 by Wraith Productions.
Ritualistic and demonic sounds start off the ep and after the intro the music goes into more of a heavier musical direction along with some ambient style synths which also mix in elements of electronica and the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams and the guitar riffing also brings in a small amount of melody.
All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw black metal feeling and throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Some songs also bring in a small amount of melodic chanting and on a couple of the tracks there is also a brief use of acoustic guitars along with distorted spoken word parts that also gives the music more of an avant garde edge before returning back to a heavier direction and also adding in a small amount of death metal growls while a later song introduces guitar leads onto the recording.
Underdark plays a musical style on this recording that is mostly rooted in a very raw and satanic style of black metal while also mixing in elements of ambient and electronic music to create a style of his own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Black Magick, Occultism, Lovecraft and Horror themes.
In my opinion Underdark are a very great sounding mixture of raw, satanic black metal and electronic music and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "About Pyramid" "A Minute Before The End Of The World" and "Satanic Wehrmacht Inquisition". 8 out of 10.
