Veturheim are a band from Russia that plays post black metal and this is a review of their self released 2016 ep "Vicious And Violent".
A very dark yet melodic sound starts off the ep and the solos and leads also use a great amount of melody and after a few seconds depressive black metal screams are added onto the recording and spoken word parts can also be heard at times and a lot of post metal and shoegaze elements can be heard in the bands musical style.
At times the music can get very atmospheric and when tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs more of a raw black metal feeling and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording and all of the songs stick to either a very slow or mid paced musical direction and they close the ep with a cover of Ayr's "Thirst" which is also very long and epic in length.
Veturheim plays a style of black metal that mixes the post. atmospheric and depressive sides of the genre together with some rawness, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Veturheim are a very great sounding post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out t his ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Hollow hearts". 8 out of 10.
