Vananidr are a band from Sweden that plays a very aggressive, melodic and old school form of Swedish black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2019 album which will be released in April by Purity Through Fire.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the music also brings in a great amount of 90's influences.
Synths can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style along with the riffs also adding in a great amount of Swedish style melodies.
A couple of the tracks are long and epic in length while growls can also be heard in certain sections of the recording. A couple of the later tracks are instrumentals along with some of the riffing adding in folk melodies but with a heavier take on the genre. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover winter, war, nature, darkness and evil themes.
In my opinion Vananidr are a very great sounding melodic, aggressive and old school Swedish black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Raging Blizzards" "Abominations Of Evil" and "Enter Eternity". 8 out of 10.
