Fathomless Misery are a solo project from the United Kingdom that plays a very harsh, misanthropic and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his 2015 album "Descent of Slow Suffering" which was released by Thantalogy Productions.
Sounds of darkness start off the album before adding in heavy yet distorted melodic guitar riffing and for a awhile the music is very repetitive before slowly building into more of an atmospheric direction along with some black metal screams that are very grim, high pitched and depressive and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
When the music speeds up blast beats can be heard while the synths in the background gives the music more of a haunting and dark atmosphere and the solos and leads also remain true to a very modern and atmospheric style of black metal and you can also hear spoken word parts being added into certain sections of the recording.
During the faster sections of the songs the music brings in more of a raw style of black metal and clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with elements of ambient music and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them and as the album progresses experimental and avant garde elements are brought in for a brief period and their is also an acoustic instrumental halfway through the recording before making a return back to a heavier direction on the remaining tracks.
Fathomless Misery plays a style of black metal that can be very raw, misanthropic and depressive at times while also remaining very atmospheric as well as mixing in ambient and experimental elements to create a very dark sounding recording that stands out on its own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion Fathomless Misery are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Absence Of Soul" and "Descent Of Slow Suffering". 8 out of 10.
