Ran are a band with members from both Iceland and the Netherlands that has been recently featured in this zine and plays a raw mixture of black and thrash metal and this is a review of their self released 2015 ep "Solin Deyr".
A very dark, heavy and raw sound starts off the ep along with some deep growls and morbid sounding melodies that also gives the music a Greek black metal feeling and the faster sections also use a great amount of blast beats and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Elements of thrash can be heard quite a bit throughout the recording and there is also a great amount of fast tremolo picking present throughout the whole recording and after awhile the vocals also start adding in more of a grim black metal style and all 3 of the tracks stick to a heavier musical style while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and when guitar leads are utilized they add more distorted melodies into the songs and the last track is very long and epic in length.
Ran plays a style of black metal on this recording that is very raw and old school while also bringing in a touch of thrash, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Norse Mythology, Chaos, War and Hell themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ran and if you are a fan of raw, old school black metal with thrash elements, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Fables Of Insanity". 8 out of 10.
