Vargstuhr are a solo project from Spain that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his 2015 demo "Howlings" which was released by Depressive Illusions Records.
The sounds of wolves start off the album along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds later that also gives the music more of a folk music feeling as well as some melodic pagan vocals and after the intro the music goes into a heavier and darker direction along with some very distorted sounding melodies.
Clean and heavy parts mix together quite a bit throughout the recording and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while the harsher vocals are mostly grim black metal screams and the guitar leads also are very melodic sounding and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can be heard and some songs also bring in a small amount of blast beats along with a great amount of raw energy and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly in some of the songs along with a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Vargstuhr plays a style of black metal that is very raw and atmospheric while also adding in a touch of folk music which also makes the songs stand out a bit more, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover wolves themes.
In my opinion Vargstuhr are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Running On The Snow" "The Hunt, In Search Of The Prey" and "Running Between The Trees". 8 out of 10.
