Oranssi Pazuzu are a band from Finland that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very psychedelic and experimental form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Varahtelija" which will be released in February by 20 Buck Spin.
Avant garde sounds and folk instruments start off the album along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and after a minute the music starts getting more heavier and melodic while also being very distorted and adding in experimental and psychedelic elements as well as some grim black metal screams.
A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and they is also a touch of 60's and 70's psych/progressive rock in the music at times along with some guitar solos and leads adding in some of these retro sounds while also being very modern at the same time and some songs also bring in a small amount of tribal elements.
Every song has a different sound to them and all of the songs stick mostly to a slow or mid paced musical direction where there is a brief use of fast playing and blast beats that also gives the music a raw style of black metal on a few songs while one track also brings in a small amount of clean playing.
Oranssi Pazuzu plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in black metal while also being very psychedelic and experimental at the same time to create a very original sounding recording that also shows progression from their previous album, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover abstact themes and cosmos.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Orassi Pazuzu and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lahja" "Vasemman Kaden Hierakia" and "Valveavarrus". 8 out of 10.
