Nan Elmoth are a band from California that plays a very epic form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2015 album "Hammer Of The Moon".
A very dark and atmospheric sounding intro starts off the album along with some clean guitars a few seconds later and after the intro the music starts going into more of a heavier musical direction and most of the tracks a re very long and epic in length and the vocals are very high pitched black metal screams.
Melodies can be heard quite a bit in both the guitar leads and riffs while the slower sections of the music are very heavily influences by doom metal and the faster sections bring in more of a raw black metal style that also utilizes a great amount of blast beats and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Clean playing makes a return in certain sections of the recording while some parts of the music also bring in melodic vocals and some of the riffs are very heavily rooted in the 90's while the music is still very modern and female vocals are added into the music briefly and they also give the songs more of a pagan metal feeling and the album closes with acoustic guitars.
Nan Elmoth plays a style of black metal that is mostly epic while still having its raw and melodic moments as well is adding in a touch of pagan and doom metal, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover earth worship, and ancient wisdom.
In my opinion Nan Elmoth are a very great sounding epic black metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unleash The Kings Of Wolves" and "Ghostdance". 8 out of 10.
