SYMD are a band from Russia that plays a very raw and cold form of black metal and this is a review of their 2012 album "Camera Obscura" which was released by Satanath Records.
Ambient sounds start off the album along with some synths and chants that also gives the music a ritualistic feeling and after the intro the music starts getting more heavy and melodic along with some depressive black metal screams that can also get very high pitched at times and when the music speeds up it brings in a more raw style of the genre.
Blast beats can be heard quite a bit during the faster sections of the music and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can hear a great amount of 90's influences throughout the recording and some of the tracks the vocals also get more deep and grim and when solos and leads are added into the music they are very dark and melodic sounding and there is also a great amount of diversity present throughout the recording while all the songs also remain true to black metal and one song also brings in a brief use of spoken word parts while the last track has acoustic guitars being brought in.
SYMD plays a style of black metal that is very diverse with some songs bordering more on the raw and old school style while other tracks bring in more of an atmospheric and depressive style, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Russian and English and cover darkness and death themes.
In my opinion SYMD are a very great sounding raw and cold black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dawn of Darkness" "Labyrinth Lost Consciousness" "Cold" and "Chaotic Sanity". 8 out of 10.
