Dødssanger are a band from Hanoi, Vietnam that plays a very nihilistic and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Reflection Of A Wretched Soul" which will be released on May 12th by House Of Ygra.
Drum beats and distorted amp sounds start off the album before going into more of a darker and heavier musical direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched yet depressive sounding black metal screams along with some melodies also being added into the guitar riffing at times and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly.
When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the guitar leads are also done in a very melodic style when they are utilized. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with some of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction, clean playing, synths and whispers are also added on the closing track.
Dødssanger plays a style of depressive black metal that is very nihilistic and depressive sounding as well as avoiding the use of any fast riffs or blast beats. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover humanity's hatred, nihilism and a journey under a sea of trees with leaves made from razors.
In my opinion Dødssanger are a very great sounding nihilistic and depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Long Dream" and "The Garden Of Suicide". 8 out of 10.
