Median Omega Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Median Omega is a musical dimension that for many years  haunted me. The year 2022 was a very inspiring period for me; I was fully committed into my two musical “children”- Median Omega and Ember Sun. When Alpha joined the roster, everything was placed in the right direction leading to the completion of our album, Insolence. While I’m more into raw, aggressive black metal, Alpha managed to combine my style with the symphonic parts, so that is what Insolence sounds.

2.So far you have released one album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

I didn’t follow any norm, or safe roads, I compose and record several parts scattered around on hard drives, tapes, phone. And then I’m trying to solve the puzzle. Placing the right part to the right place. After that, comes the hard part to decide what to keep, performing variations, changing some lead guitar sounds, bass arrangements, everything, while Alpha is slaying the drums.

3.Both of the band members also have experience playing funeral doom/death metal in another project, how would you compare the black metal style of 'Median Omega' to your other project?

There is absolutely no comparison between them, it’s two totally different concepts. I’m composing depending on my mood. Ember sun is more atmospheric, with synth atmosphere and slow riffs. Median Omega is an in-your-face thing; pure raw guitars, some symphonic parts and many-many leads, making the whole concept multidimensional and with more depth.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

Well while some tracks like ‘Prime Meridian Nihil’, and ‘Beyond Unison of Duality’ (only on cd) are more Esoteric Occult. ‘Let the mortals sing our names’ and ‘The Descendants’ are dark epic hymns, no fairy dust, no dragons, no shiny knights, nothing but filthy undead hordes raging battleground for revenge. ‘Insolence’ on the other hand has some political view aspect.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Median Omega'?

I can talk for hours about this topic.

Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet and the median letter -according to the Omiros (Homer) wheel discovered in Lintini (Sicily)- is the letter N placed next to letter A and opposite to letter M where M is next to Omega. The Letter N has a wide spectrum of meaning but everything ceases to infinity so N is Infinity. So, you can guess what Median Omega means.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

The artwork is hugely inspired by our dark epic theme, blended with Greek Mythology elements- like Pegasus. Me and Alpha are big fans of low fantasy epic books so we couldn’t find a better artwork other than this to express our music.

7.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

Never say never but at the moment we will remain as we are.

8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Insolence was only available on Bandcamp, no streaming platforms and no label for physical release.  So, we had low expectations on how far our music would reach. With the help of dedicated channels and our promoter we did reach some of our goals. But as our name spread around, we managed to get on the roster of the legendary Drakkar productions, that will release our album ‘Insolence’ in physical format. The reaction and the feedback we received was unexpected, from the feedback we got, I believe that people who listened to our album, loved it.

9.What is going on with 'Ember Sun', these days?

Ember Sun released their second full album ‘Eleusis’ and we’re still promoting it. Eleusis is a totally different chapter, a huge leap for Atmospheric funeral doom and I challenge you all to visit our bandcamp and listen to it! I will worth your time and that’s a promise.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

No idea, the certain thing is that we will keep playing Black Metal till the sun cease to exist.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I got hooked with black metal the day Darkthrone released ‘A blaze of the Northern Sky’, back in 1992. These guys made me listen to black Metal and I’ve never regret it. Emperor was a huge chapter for my musical direction, but if I had to name a few, these will be Emperor, Darkthrone, Kovenant, Limbonic Art. There are so many good black metal bands nowadays that I really enjoy, my favorite at the moment is Blut aus nord, their last album ‘Disharmonium’ is wickedly good!

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Metal heads go on our bandcamp and enjoy our debut Insolence.
