Lucifixion are a duo form the united States that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Trisect Joys Of Pierced Hearts" which will be released in June by Sentient Ruin laboratories.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while the solos and leads are also done in a very aggressive style. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the music is heavily rooted in the 90's and early 2000's era.
Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing and leads along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams as well as one song also adding in a brief use of spoken word parts, one of the tracks is also an instrumental and also adds in small amount of clean playing before returning back to a heavier direction, synths are also used briefly towards the end.
On this recording Lucifixion plays a style of black metal that is very raw and old school sounding as well as adding in some influences of the classic Scandinavian, German, French and U.S.A bands to create their own take on the genre. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness and death themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Lucifixion and if you are a fan of raw and old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE 'Howl, Thy Desolate Sound" and "Iron Outer Midnyghte". 8 out of 10.
