Calderum are a solo project from Spain that plays a raw mixture of black metal and dungeon synth and this is a review of his 2023 album "Lord Cramridor" which was released by Death Prayer Records.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while some of the songs are also long and epic in length as well as the songs also mixing in a great amount of influences from the 90's era.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the keyboards also bring in elements of dungeon synth. The album also has its symphonic moments along with the riffs also adding in a small amount of melody at times and one song also adds in a brief use of melodic chants, clean playing and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly.
Calderum plays a musical style that takes black metal and dungeon synth and mixes them together to create a sound of his onw. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Fantasy, Black Magick and Witchcraft themes.
In my opinion Calderum are a very great sounding raw mixture of black metal and dungeon synth and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gates To Darkness" and "Lord Cramridor". 8 out of 10.
