Anguana are a band from Italy that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 ep "Suman" which will be released in June by Nykta.
Field recordings and folk instruments start off the ep before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the vocals a re mostly high pitched black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts that also show influences of both the old school and modern era's of the genre. At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with a couple of the tracks also being instrumentals, synths can also be heard on the closing song.
Anguana plays a style of black metal that is very aggressive and atmospheric sounding. The production sound very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Italian and cover folklore, witchery, traditions and tales.
In my opinion Anguana are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should c heck out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "1575" and "Croxara". 8 out of 10.
