:BOLVERK: are a band from Norway that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very aggressive and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Svarte sekunder" which will be released on may 26th by WormHoleDeath Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while the vocals also b ring in a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls. You can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording along with most of the tracks being long and epic in length and the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
When the music speeds up a lot of blast beats can be heard while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also bring in more of a melodic and old school style along with one track also adding in a brief use of spoken word parts.
When tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling and clean playing and clear vocals can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and the album closes with a cover of Jonas Fjeld's "The bells Are Ringing For You Know". The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Norse mythology, Demonology, Death and Thanatosis themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from :BOLVERK: and if you are a fan of aggressive and melodic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Beastly Ways Of an" "Mett av dage" "Belphegor's Hymn" and "Obsidian Byzantium". 8 out of 10.
