This is a review of a split album between Michigan's Maeglin and California's Wolvëin which was released by ithildin Tape production and we will s tart off the review with Maeglin who returns with his atmospheric and epic style of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with some dungeon synth style synths which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Both of his tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music also having its atmospheric moments and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody as well as the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of blast beats. The production sound s very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the writings of J.R. R Tolkien, Fantasy and War themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Maeglin and if you are a fan of atmospheric and epic black metal with elements of dungeon synth, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Born In The Absence of Light".
Next up is Wolvëin a solo project that plays a raw mixture of black metal and dungeon synth.
His side of the split starts out with epic sounding dungeon synth style synths which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the tracks more of a raw feeling.
At time s the music also captures a very lo-fi atmosphere along with some acoustic guitars also being utilized briefly and the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover blasphemy and darkness themes.
In my opinion Wolvëin are a very great sounding raw mixture of black metal and dungeon synth and if you are a fan of t hos e musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Storms of Blood" and "Cursed Eternal". 8 out of 10.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric, raw black metal and dungeon synth. 8 out of 10.
