Finland's Vonulfsreich has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Misamal Winds" which was released by Fallen Temple.
A very dark yet sound starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal s creams along with the music also being heavily rooted in the 90's era and the solos and leads also remain t rue to an old school style.
The riffs also bring in a small amount of melody at times while the faster sections of the songs also add in some blast beats. Dark soundscapes, clean playing and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly along with some of the songs also adding in a mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When tremolo picking is finally added into the faster riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling along with a later track also adds in a small amount of synths and melodic vocals. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover occultism, nature mysticism and misanthropy as well as one song also being written in Finnish.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Vonulfsreich and if you are a fan of raw and old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deathclaw" "Winter Snake" and "Conqueror's Hatchet".8 out of 10.
