Dies Ater where a band from Germany that played a very aggressive and melodic form of black metal with some symphonic touches and this is a review of their 1999 album "Reign Of Tempests" which will be re-issued in May, 2023 by Northern Silence Productions with their 1996 demo "Rabenflug" as bonus tracks.
Epic sounding keyboards start off the album while also introducing symphonic elements which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can b e heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling .
The album also h as its atmospheric moments while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and a great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with some songs also adding in a small amount of clear vocals. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style as well as some tracks also adding in a small amount of classical guitars and clean playing.
Battle sounds can also be heard briefly as well as a couple of songs also adds in a small amount of operatic female vocals. On the demo tracks the keyboards also capture the atmosphere of a fantast movie soundtrack and the tracks also add in a more raw style along with the riffs still keeping the melodic direction that dominated more of the full length, all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and German and cover mysticism, darkness and weakness of humanity themes.
In my opinion Dies Ater where a a very great sounding aggressive and melodic black metal band with some symphonic touches and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "King Of Tempests" "Der Such der Seele" "Rabenflug" and "Filius Tenebrae". 8 out of 10.
