Midnight Betrothed are a solo project from Australia that plays a sombre romantic form of black metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Death...My Faithful Bride" which will be released in May by Northern Silence Productions.
Keyboards start off the album while also bringing in elements of neo-classical, dark ambient and dungeon synth and mixing in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the music also adding in a good amount of influences from the mid 90's era.
The album also has its symphonic moments while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling along with a great portion of the tracks also being long and epic in length.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the songs sound like they could of easily been recorded and released 25 years ago. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover moonlit tragedy and forlorn love.
In my opinion Midnight Betrothed are a very great sounding sombre romantic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUD E "A Rainy Day In The Middle Of February" and "Julianne". 8/5 out of 10.
