Mythos where a band from Finland that played a raw mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 1995 album "Pain Amplifier" which will was re-issued in 2023 by Vic Records.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album before going into a heavier direction while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while death metal growls can also be heard at times. Elements of grindcore can also be heard in the more brutal sections of the songs along with one track also adding in a brief use of synths and the album also closes with a cover of Carcass's "Reek Of Putrefaction".
Mythos plays a musical style that was very heavily rooted in a fast and raw black metal style and mixed in elements of death metal and grindcore to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover darkness, evil and occultism themes.
In my opinion mythos where a very great sounding raw mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hung On The Wings" "The Pain Amplifier" and "Strange Things Happen In The Night". 8/5 out of 10.
