Grafhond are a duo from the Netherlands that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 ep "In Harmonie met de dood" which was released as a joint effort between Void Wanderer and War Productions.
Angry sounding black metal screams and shouts which also sound more different then most bands of the genre start off the ep before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the second wave era.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while clear singing can also be heard briefly. All of the riffing is done on power chords along with the riffs also avoiding the use of melody or guitar leads to focus on a heavier direction and some of the riffs also show an influence of thrash metal.
Grafhond plays a style of black metal that is very raw and aggressive in the 90's second wave tradition. The production sounds very dark and r aw while the lyrics are written in Dutch and cover violence and despair themes.
In my opinion Grafhond are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "De zuivering" and "Voor galg en rad". 8 out of 10.
