Gathering Stones are a solo project from Canada that plays a very morbid and ugly form of black metal with elements of punk and this is a review of his self released 2023 demo "A Pale Omen".
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the demo while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of tremolo piking and blast b eats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
Elements of punk can also b e heard at times while some of the riffing also shows some influences of the 90;s French style mixed in with a more modern sound. Experimental touches can also b e heard towards the end of the second song and most of the demo sticks to either a mid tempo or fast direction.
Gathering Stones plays a musical style that takes a very dirty and grim form of black metal and mixes it with punk to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover death and a descent into madness.
In my opinion Gatehering Stones are a very great sounding grim and ugly black metal solo project with elements of punk and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Fertile Vessel" and "A Black Aura". 8 out of 10.
