Clarion Knell/Abyss Of Fear/Syrup Moose Records/2023 EP Review

 

  Clarion  Knell  are  a  solo  project  from  France  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  home  made  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  ep  "Abyss  Of  Fear"  which  will  be  released  on  April  28th  by  Syrup  Moose  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on t he  recording  also have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  melodies  can  also b e  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while t he  synths  also  give  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  a  very  low-fi  atmosphere  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  spoken  word  samples  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  

  Clarion  Knell  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  atmospheric  and  home  grown  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Fantasy,  Revolution  and  Class  Struggle  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Clarion  Knell  are  a  very  great  sounding  home  made  atmospheric  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Enlightenment"  and  "Totality".  8  out  of  10.
