Jaue are a solo project from Columbia that plays a very melodic form of pagan black metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Cantos del Sur Salvaje" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath and Exhumed Records.
Acoustic guitars start off the album along with some synths a few seconds which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while some of the tracks are also long and epic in length and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
Clear pagan vocals can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling and symphonic elements are also utilized at times.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a couple of songs also adding in a small amount of spoken word parts as well as a few tracks also mixing in touches of folk music. and they also bring in a Bathory cover and their own version of the Vikings tv series "My Mother Told Me". The production sounds very professional while t he lyrics are written in a mixture of Spanish and English and cover Latin American territory, ancient gods, animals and power places.
In my opinion Jaue are a very great sounding melodic pagan black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Guerrero Mapuche" " Espiritu Jaguar" "La Serpente Emplumada" and " Escultor de Hombres". 8 out of 10.
