Cosmic Forest are a solo project from Indonesia that plays a very raw, melodic and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2023 ep "My Eyes Cold As The Darkest Winter Nights".
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the ep and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while clean playing an rain sounds can also be heard briefly while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal s creams.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. The songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also mixing in a good amount of old school influences.
Cosmic Forest plays a style of black metal that is very raw, atmospheric, melodic and old school sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover prehistory, nature and ancient themes.
In my opinion Cosmic Forest are a very great sounding raw, atmospheric, melodic and old school black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "A Thousand Black Clouds Storm". 8/5 out of 10.
