Gallows Rites are a band from Portugal that plays a necromantic mixture of black and thrash metal and this is a review of their 203 ep "Witchcraft And Necro Desecration" which will b e released in my by Helldprod Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the ep while the riffs also add in a great amount of thrash emtal elements. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard along with the vocals being mostly grim black metal screams and the music also shows an influence of the first wave era of the genre.
When tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling. while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. A small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing at times, when spoken word samples are utilized they also give the music more of a ritualistic feeling before returning back to a heavier direction.
Gallows Rites plays a musical style that goes back to the 80's and 90's era of black metal and mixes it with thrash metal to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Satanism, Witchcraft, Sorcery and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Gallows Rites are a very great sounding necromantic mixture of black and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Satanic Night" and "Unholy Sorcery". 8 out of 10.
