Gråande are a duo from Sweden with the main member being a part of Lustre and plays an ambient form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2023 ep which will be released in May by Nordvis Produktion.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the ep along with some ambient style synths and keyboards which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding while both of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the riffing also adding in some droning and minimalist touches and when the music speeds up on the second track a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling.
Gråande plays a style of ambient black metal that is very atmospheric and epic sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover losing you connection to nature and give in to dark and death - both within and without.
In my opinion Gråande are a very great sounding epic and atmospheric ambient black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Evighetens Kvarn". 8 out of 10.
