Norway's Nattverd has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of an old school style of Norwegian black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "I Helvetes Forakt" which will be released in My by Soulseller Records.
Nature orientated soundscapes start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody and the music is heavily rooted in the classic Nordic style with some modern touches.
Classical guitars can also b e heard briefly while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them, atmospheric sounding synths can also be heard on a couple of tracks and the closing song is also very long and epic in length.
On this recording Nattverd takes the classic Nordic style of black metal and mixes it in with the more modern era of the genre. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Norwegian and cover Darkness and Winter themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nattverd and if you are a fan of Norwegian black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE " Det Stormer I Norge" "Forbannet Vaere" "En gammel Kriger Trosser Vind Og" and "I Moerke Skip Innover". 8 out of 10.
