This is a review of a self released 3 way split album between Russia's Temple Of Nihil, Angr and Disilumination called "Ex Mundi-Ad Nihil-Gnosis Of The Unbeing" and we will start off the review with Temple Of Nihil who return with their nihilistic style of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with dark soundscapes before going into a heavier musical direction while all of the instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing as well as some spoken word parts and whispers are also utilized briefly.
Vocals are done in mostly a grim black metal style along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which gives their side of the split more of a raw feeling, trumpets and clear singing can also be heard briefly and the solos and leads are also done in a very chaotic style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover nihilism and the poetry of Andrei Bely.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Temple of Nihil and if you are a fan of nihilistic black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Epitaph".
Next up is Angr who return with their aggressive style of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very fast and raw sound which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the music is also more rooted in a modern style and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
Throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the musical instruments on their side of the split also have a very powerful sound to them as well as one of their songs being long and epic in length, clear vocals can also be heard briefly and the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover European Culture of the Pre Christian Era.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Angr and if you are a fan of aggressive black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Scientium".
Next up is Disillumination a band that plays an occult mixture of black and death metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very heavy and aggressive sound while also adding in some brutal blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with some death metal growls also being utilized at times as well as their only track also being over 11 minutes in length,.
When tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing, acoustic guitars can also b e heard briefly and there is also a brief use of angry shouts and towards the end there is also a small amount of synths, chants and throat singing. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism, Hermeticism, Death and Decay themes.
In my opinion Disillumination are a very great sounding occult mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of Russian black metal. 8 out of 10.
