Chloe Dancer Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

1. I start Chloe Dancer just as a way for me to combine my love for melody as well aa blast beats. Lol. I liked the idea of in the span of 30 seconds you are able to hear something beautiful and moving and also something that makes you want to put your head through a wall. It offered me a way to be beautiful and ugly at the same time.

2.In July you have a new ep coming out, musically how does it differ from your previous release?

2. Well with this release, the biggest change is it has vocals, but from a musical standpoint i just think its more confident. It allows the listener to feel the full breadth of what i had tried to convey with the previous e.p. but definitely having vocals is the biggest change.

3.Most of your earlier music was instrumental while the new release has vocals, what was the decision behind going into this direction?

3. Honestly it just kind of happened. I had been friends with Espi (the vocalist) for a while and we got talking about working together and they actually mentioned liking Chloe Dancer without knowing it was my project. And during the discussion the music we wanted to make with each other was basically Chloe Dancer with vocals so we just figured itd be a smart idea to just put vocals on Chloe Dancer.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

4. As far as lyrics, Espi was fully on that. I told them to write whatever they wanted. So only they could really get into that. However i will say that reading the lyrics i was able to fully get behind them and was blown away by them.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Chloe Dancer'?

5. The name is actually from the Mother Love Bone song, Chloe Dancer. Its a super sad song about a guy in love with a stripper that dies. I just loved the image it conjured to me. To me, it fit with the feeling of the music. Beautiful, ugly, powerful.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new ep cover?

6. The artwork is actually something Espi came up with. I felt that after talking we were on the same page about things and i feel like they killed it. I think it definitely fits the music and it allows the listener to have something visual to look at that goes perfectly with the music.

7.So far very little is known about the project other than the bandcamp page, do you prefer to keep a lower profile?

7. Honestly Chloe started out as just a small little project that i did because i was bored and wanted to see if i could mske the music i heard in my head. Its not the main project for either of us so unless it blows up in some huge way i dont ever see it being a big thing, which is fine by me. Its not the kind of music you will hear on the radio. Its something you have to search for and find. So i think that the people that know the band and love it appreciate it fully. Id rather have 3 great fans and 3 million who only like us cause we were on tiktok.

8.Both of your releases have came out through 'Syrup Moose Record', do you feel this label has been very helpful when it comes to getting your music out there heard?

8. I fucking love Syrup Moose. They are amazing. Truly. Im not just saying that cause they are my label but even if they didnt put out any of my shit id love and support them. They do it the right way. As an artist im treated amazing. And as friends they just care. Its so nice and comforting. Seeing the stuff they have been doing and plan to do it makes me super happy and proud to be a part of it.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal and shoegaze?

9. To be perfectly honest i have zero idea. I dont ever look or care about stats. If we have fans thats awesome and i hope they know they are appreciated. If we dont thats cool too. Wont change a thing. The few people that i know and put alot of faith in, in a musical kind of way, whos opinions mean alot to me dig it, so really thats enough for me.

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

10. Absolutely no idea. Maybe in a month, maybe never. Its a very fluid situation. It was great working with Espi, and i hope they feel the same way. At this moment i have no plans to do anything Chloe Dancer again, but that could change in an hour. This came together very quickly so who knows. We will see how this does and regroup and maybe do something again. It will depend on if i want to channel the music again, and if Espi wants to contribute to it as well.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

11. Oh man thats a huge question. I actually listen ti very little heavy music. I listen to mostly classical stuff and opera. Most recently ive been listening to Ethel Cain, Roadside Graves, Grave Dweller and the new Full Of Hell/Primitive Man split

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

12. Well first thank you for doing this interview and for reviewing and checking out the record. It means alot. Thanks to Syrup Moose for being awesome and putting out our weird little album. And lastly, thanks to the people reading this and that have listened to the music. I really appreciate it. It means alot.
