Maeglin are a duo from Grand Rapids, Michigan that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "My Father's Father's War" which was released by Ithildin Tape Production.
A very dark, heavy and lo-fi sound starts off the ep while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams. During the faster sections of the songs a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the music more of a feeling and melodies can also b e heard in some of the guitar riffing.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the songs also add in a good mixture of both old school and modern influences. One of the tracks is also long and epic in length and the whole recording also sticks to a heavier direction.
Maeglin plays a style black metal that is very raw and lo-fi sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the different generations of war.
In my opinion Maeglin are a very great sounding raw and lo-fi black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Land of Our Own" and "Land Of The Dead". 8 out of 10.
