This is a review of another recording from Grand Rapids, Michigan duo Maeglin which shows the music going for more of a raw and lo-fi style of black metal and the ep was released in 2022 by Ithildin Tape Production and called "Screams of A Frozen Heart".
A dungeon synth orientated intro starts off the ep before going into a heavier direction while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. At times the music also captures a lo-fi atmosphere along with the music adding in influences form both the old school and modern era's of the genre.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. One of the tracks is also very long and epic in length along with the tremolo picking also giving the music more of a raw feeling when it is utilized, synths also return in certain sections of the ep.
On this recording Maeglin brings in more of a raw and mid tempo style of black metal. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the writings of J.R.R Tolkien, Fantasy and War themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Maeglin and if you are a fan of raw and mid tempo black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fated To Eternal Wandering" and "Screams of A Frozen heart". 8 out of 10.
