Brood In Black Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

1. Brood In Black is a one-man project/2-man Duo Of Darkness, from the hollows of Kentucky. We play Raw Black Metal. We have released 2 demos thus far, Arrival Of Death,(one-man demo) and Blasfemas.(one-man & band demo). We are also getting ready to release our 3rd demo, a band re-recording of Arrival Of Death, called Second Arrival Of Death, in early May.

2.How would you describe the musical sound that has been presented on the demo's you have released so far?
2.  Raw, lo-fi, uncompromising, Black Fucking Metal!

3.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored with your music?

3. My lyrics usually consist of anti-Christianity themes, Demonology ,Mythology,  the Occult, Blasphemy, Death, and the darkness that revolves it, and of course, Satan. My interpretations and opinions of things as well, such as stories from the Bible or Christianity, religious mockery, Also, sometimes I write in a third-person point of view. "I" doesn't always mean myself. It's written in character form. I also write from a fable point of view, making characters, derived from demonology, mythology, and composing fables..It's whatever I feel that works with the music, as well. Writing along with music. But all in all, it mostly revolves around The Infernal One below, Satanas...

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Brood In Black'?
4. The name Brood In Black actually derived from when I started writing black metal/thrash/punk, from back in 2005. I started writing music like this, in which at that point, it was simply called The Brood. I wrote until 2007, when I finally purchased a Tascam Portastudio 4-track recorder, and started recording all of these songs that I had written by myself since 2005. And this project lasted until 2010, as it was solely a one-man project. No band, no shows, no demos released, no online presence, nothing. So with the disappointment with having this one-man project wither away, I put this project into the crypts, to never be seen again. Until years later, in 2015, I dug up the old tapes, and decided to perform necromancy on this project..In which, I decided instead of The Brood, because by this point, there were 10 other bands called that online, started writing down names. And of  course, The Brood was on there, but I wanted to make this project more dark, more black, and in hopes that this project would turn into a band, I added In Black to the end of The Brood. At that point, I imagined a full line-up band, fully cloaked, performing a ritual, like at a black mass. It just felt right, the name sent chills up my spine, in a good way. When you hear the name Brood In Black, you could almost imagine a black mass...with everyone in their ritual cloaks and robes, all in black. Hence the name Brood In Black.

5.Originally the band was a solo project, what was the decision behind expanding into a duo?
5. The decision was easy. I had always wanted to play this kind of music to a live audience, to perform live rituals to the masses. So a one-man black metal live ritual was kind of impossible, unless I were to play guitar and sing along with some previously recorded tracks, which would make the live rituals less organic. So in Winter 2016/2017, after recording numerous demos, and assembling the first demo Arrival Of Death, I decided to release it to the public, online and thru mail-order. I hadn't planned to do that, but for some reason I did, just to see if anyone would enjoy these blasphemies.. And to my surprise, it started getting some online reviews and also mail-order sales. So, after some thought, and also being asked about playing live, I reached out to Bulgor for help, which he accepted. Bulgor is a family member of mine, which we had played in a couple of punk rock bands before Brood In Black. So in Summer 2017 we started practicing, re-shaping the songs from Arrival Of Death, and also writing some new unholy opuses. And on August 16th 2017, we performed our first live ritual at Best Friend Bar in Lexington, Ky. And we've been playing ever since.

6.What are some of the best shows that you have played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
6.The best show we have played so far, would have to be the last show we just played this past week. We played last Thursday, April 26th, at Best Friend Bar, in Lexington. Was a very good show! The Lexington Metal Maniacs fucking rule! People were headbanging, throwing up the horns at us, and also requesting songs! Definitely the best show we have played to date, and one I will remember for a long time. We opened that show, opening for Wolfstar(Heavy Metal), Astralnaut(Black Metal), and Kur(Blackened Death Metal), all very good bands. And also all local Kentucky bands. As far as our stage performance the VISUAL aspect, we always wear our demon-paint, sometimes blood, and sometimes wear our cloaks onstage, complete with lit candles, bones, etc..But also, sometimes we just get onstage and play, without the decorations or cloaks .It all depends on the venue, and turnout as well.  The demonpaint always is a must for me...We are hoping to add more to our live rituals, more , more bones, more everything, to make our rituals something you will not forget, visually. To make the experience more evil, more brutal, more more more!  Our stage performance, musically, we just do what we do. Play our brand of Black Metal. We get on stage as warriors, and spew forth our blasphemies to the willing and unwilling alike. From the first note, until the last, it is a WAR.. we use our instruments as weapons, and our music as ammunition.. and the stage is our fucking field of battle.. The enemy is Christianity. The enemy is organized hypocritical religion. Opposers of Black Metal. Opposers of Brood In Black. So by the end of the battle, we are still standing. And everyone else-you're either with us or against us. And those left standing with us, we stand with Satan..

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
7. As far as future shows/tours, we have no tours planned as of yet, but would love to do a tour. Bulgor has a difficult work schedule, and is sometimes hard to work around for shows/tours. The plan is to get a replacement on these shows that Bulgor will not be able to play. It is understandable, that he has to work to pay his bills. But Brood In Black is my job. Black Metal is my work. That is why we would like to have a replacement, in case Bulgor cannot play certain shows. As far as shows coming up, our next show is May 7th, 2018, at the Highlands Tap Room, in Louisville, Kentucky, for a Metal Monday show. This will be a showcase show for us, as we will be the only act on this show. We will have an extended live ritual for this show, so we shall have something special lined up. Our next show after this, is a show currently planned for July 9th, for Al's Bar Of Lexington. If any Black Metal bands would like to play with Brood In Black on this show, or would like to book a show or tour with us or general contact, send an email to us at broodinblack@gmail.com

8.Can you tell us a little bit more about 'No Hope In Hell Records'?
8. No Hope In Hell Records was my first underground label, which had mainly punk rock bands, and noise rock/experimental bands on it. It is now defunct. R.I.P. Our main label now is Blasfemas Records, which is run by myself. . Blasfemas Records is a DIY underground Black Metal label. Brood In Black is the only band currently on this label. If any BM bands would be interested in releasing a demo or something on it, contact me. I am looking to release a handful of BM demos on the label. And also looking to do splits with Brood In Black. Looking for raw sounding Black Metal, demos, rehearsals. I don't care if you record with a boombox, or if it sounds like shit. To me, that is what the true underground is about. That is the essence of it- Releasing art by all means, even if it sounds terrible. And we do limited number releases.  Artwork and everything is hand-done. Cut, copy, paste, dub, release. It is all hands-on. No printing press. D.I.Y. or fucking die!

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
9. As far as feedback worldwide, we have had a couple of reviews of our demos from other countries. And here in the states, too. But overall, the feedback has all been positive from all over the world. Reviews have all been positive. I think I would actually be relieved to receive a negative review haha!!

10.What can ex expect musically during the future?
10. You can expect more music from Brood In Black. We have a new demo coming out next month, May 10th to be exact. It is called "Second Arrival Of Death". This is mostly a band re-recording of the first demo "Arrival Of Death", with some new songs added as well. We worked really hard to take the songs from the first demo Arrival Of Death, and re-constructed every song, so that they would have a style and feel of their own. When we are not rehearsing, I am constantly writing, and recording demos. So there shall be no shortage of music from Brood In Black.jThere are a couple of splits planned with some local Kentucky bands/projects, but until these develop further than talk, I will leave it at that.. Even long after I die, there will be Brood In Black music released for future generations...We hope to play as many shows as we can, and also hope to tour, even if just a mini-tour. We would like to spread this plague all over the world, known as Brood In Black!! Personally, I would love to just record and release as much music as I can, and play as many shows as I can. Because you never know when your time on this earth is neigh..I hope to leave behind a legacy, an impact on the underground U.S.B.M. scene, in one way or another.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
11. My influences are a very long list, as I listen to a lot of different music. When I started playing guitar,I was 14 years old. I was listening to punk rock, classic rock, grunge rock, and also Black Sabbath. So naturally, I started playing whatever I could learn, from everything from Sex Pistols "God Save The Queen", to  Nirvana, to Black Sabbath. I cut my teeth on all of that music, which it was the early to mid 90's.This was around the first time I first heard Extreme Metal, thru my friend Mike McCollum, when he popped in Slayer "Seasons Of The Abyss", and Sepultura "Beneath The Remains".  But with all metal, it will always be Black Sabbath, the kings.  But as far as Black Metal bands go, I will list the ones who are/were most  influential, in no particular order. The first Sodom demos/albums were a huge influence, everything before Persecution Mania. Not to say that I didn't love everything after that, but In The Sign Of Evil and Obsessed By Cruelty were very influential. Venom, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Darkthrone, Von( "Satanic Blood" is my favorite demo of all time.) Beherit, Azazel, Vlad Tepes. There are more from the past, but at this point I cant remember them all! hahaha
As for current listening, I've been listening to Croc Noir, from France. Awesome French Black Metal!!  France had, and still has, a vital Black Metal scene there. Devilgroth, from Siberia, who just recently released a theme album about Ivan The Terrible, "Ivan Grozny". Very atmospheric BM. Good album. Sardonic Witchery "King Of The Midnight Legions", Awesome Black Metal from Texas. Master's Curse's new cassette, "Resurgence", Fucking brutal Occult Black Metal from Kentucky. Highly recommended.

12.How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism?
12. My views about Satanism are, I support Satanism, even though it is now a worldwide organized religion. I'll support that before I would support any other  Judeo-Christian religion that is on this earth. I would almost consider myself a Satanist, but then that would put me in with a group of people who are a part of a religion that involves commerce, involves "belonging" to a church/cult/religious sect.  And that would make it organized, which I do NOT support. I do not support any type of organized religion. BUT I do support their credos, which is mostly common sense things that most people should do, or already do in the first place. And that is, TO BE A DECENT FUCKING HUMAN BEING! But as far as being a part of their religion, NO I am not a Satanist. I AM SATAN. I DO NOT FOLLOW ANY SHEEP OR GODS. I FOOT MY OWN PATH. I GO MY OWN WAY. HAIL SATAN.

Occultism is something I do support. I've dabbled a little bit in the Occult, the Black Arts, etc. I don't wish to speak any further of what I have been involved with, as it is personal to me. But if people want to divulge into the Occult, I recommend it. But you have to be of sound mind, body, and spirit. It is not for everyone, especially those with weak constitutes.
I fully support Occultism, witchcraft, wicca, pagan magic, nocturnal magick, and of these things of the Unlight. Fuck these Christians who practice what they call White or Christian Magic(It is the Christians who stole the pagan witches' alchemy, formulas, etc., changed it to Christian Magic. Trust me, I know one. She thinks her magic is "pure, white magic", but she doesn't understand that it is PAGAN MAGIC that she practices, not CHRISTIAN MAGIC!) The Christians have stolen everything from Pagans, Native Americans, etc. Sorry to have gone off on a tangent..

13.Are there any other black or underground metal bands that are worth checking out in your home state of Kentucky?
13. This fucking state of Kentucky needs more Black Metal bands.. Here are a few that I am fond of..
Apochryphal Revelation, Master's Curse, Pyromancer, Astralnaut, Vox Malorum

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

14. Last words? Hails to Occult Black Metal Zine for the reviews and the interview, Infernal Hails to all of our fans, throughout the world.  If anyone wants to get in contact with Brood In Black or Blasfemas Records, send us an email to broodinblack666@gmail.com  Death to the Christian Faith! Death to the prophets of Christ! Death to the Holy Priests of God! Death to their fucking lies! Death to the opposers of Black Metal! Keep the fire alive...Evil Fucking Lives..Hail Satan 666!
