This is a review of a split album between Chile's Krod and Austria's Cruciatus Infernalis called "Storming The Gates Of Heaven" which will be released in April by Kult und Kaos Productions and we will start off the review with Krod a solo project that has recently featured in this zine and plays a very raw and old school form of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with some dark soundscapes and spoken word samples before going into a heavier direction. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and the music is also very heavily rooted in the old school tradition.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard along with all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the songs more of a raw feeling and the tracks also stick mostly to either a slow or mid tempo direction. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Nihilism and Anti Christianity themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Krod and if you are a fan of raw and old school black metal, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Upon The Hills".
Next up is Cruciatus Infernalis a solo project that was recently featured in this zine and plays a mixture of black and death metal with some symphonic and dungeon synth elements.
His side of the split starts out with a very dark yet heavy sound while the keyboards also give the songs more of a symphonic touch. Spoken word samples can also be heard briefly along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the songs more of a raw feeling along with the music also being very heavily rooted in the 90's era. Throughout his side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some touches of dungeon synth also being added into the music at times, the riffing also shows an influence of death metal. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics are written in German and cover the fire that burns in heaven, of smoke that remains and of the new ruler of heaven, earth and hell.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Cruciatus Ingernalis and if you are a fan of old school black and death metal with some symphonic and dungeon synth touches, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Rauch".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and i would recommend it to all fans of old school black metal. 8 out of 10.
