Derelict are a band from Italy with members of Intolerant, Order Of The Iron Fist and Comrades that plays a very raw and old school mixture of black and death metal with elements of crust and this is a review of their 2022 album "Nomen Omen" which was released as a joint effort between Extreme Chaos and BloodRock Records.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album which also introduces black metal screams and death metal growls onto the recording before going into a heavier musical direction. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
The songs also add in a great amount of 90's influences while the solos and leads are also done in a very chaotic style and on later tracks goes into more of a melodic direction. Elements of crust can also be heard at times along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, whispered vocals can also be heard briefly as well as one of the later songs also being an instrumental.
Derelict plays a musical style that goes back to the 90's era of black and death metal and mixes them together with elements of crust to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover dark, violent and anti religion themes.
In my opinion Derelict are a very great sounding raw and old school mixture of black and death metal with elements of crust and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cannibal Pigs" "Shit parade" "Spit In The Face Of God" and "Cannabeast". 8 out of 10.
