Blåkulla are a solo project from France that plays a very mid tempo form of occult black metal and this is a review of his 2022 ep "With A Bleeding Black Heart..." which was released on cassette by Ancien Culte.
Melodic riffing starts off the ep while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era along with some clean vocals also being utilized briefly and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
The first track is long and epic in length while the second song is a cover of Marduk's "Materalised In Stone". All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to t hem and all of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo style.
Blåkulla plays a style of occult black metal that is very heavily rooted in the 90's era and very mid tempo sounding. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Mysticism themes.
In my opinion Blåkulla are a very great sounding mid tempo occult black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "With A Bleeding Black Heart...". 8 out of 10.
