Feralia are a band from Italy that h as had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording goes for more of an atmospheric style of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Under Stige/Over Dianam" which will be released in April by Time To Kill Records.
Clean playing starts off the album along with some synths a few seconds later which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Whispers can also be heard on a couple of tracks while the clean vocals also give the music more of an avant garde feeling when they are utilized and the songs also add in a great amount of high pitched black metal screams.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. Blast beats can also be heard in the faster sections of the songs along with the riffs also adding in a great amount of melody and when tremolo picking is utilized they also give the album more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some spoken word parts also being utilized on a couple of songs and they also give the music more of a ritualistic feeling. Acoustic guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the album.
Some of the tracks also being very long and epic in length as well as one of the songs also being an instrumental and the second chapter is also all done in an acoustic folk music style, towards the end a small amount of female vocals can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the rituality of Death and The Afterlife in Ancient Roman traditions.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Feralia and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal that is very original, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Marcia Funesta" "Manes" "Under Stige" and "Green Omen". 8 out of 10.
