This is a review of another recording from Sweden's solo project Werendia which continues the mixture of ambient, atmospheric black metal and dungeon synth from his previous release and the album was originally released in 2020 and called "Folkvandringen" which was re-issued in 2021 by Black Death Production.
Synths start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times while also adding in elements of ambient and dungeon synth. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams that are also mixed down low in the mix and all of the drum beats are also programmed.
At times the music also gets very epic and atmospheric sounding while the melodies can also e heard in the songs. All of the music also sticks to a slower direction which also shows an influence of Summoning and Lustre along with all of the guitar riffing being done on power chords and the whole album also sticks to a slower direction., a brief use of guitar leads can also be heard on the closing track.
On this recording Werendia remains true to the mixture of ambient, atmospheric black metal and dungeon synth that he had established on his previous release. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Norse /Germanic Mythology, Voyages and Scandinavian History themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Werendia and if you are a fan of ambient, atmospheric black metal and dungeon synth, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Folkvandringen II" and "Folkvandringen V". 8 out of 10.
