Kharon are a band from Norway that plays a very old school, technical and melodic mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Shores of Acheron" which will b e released on March 11th by Hellstain Productions.
Raw tremolo picking starts off the album while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while death metal growls can also be heard at times as well the riffs also getting very technical and melodic sounding at times.
Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the guitar solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style and as the album progresses a brief use of clean vocals can also be heard briefly, acoustic guitars and orchestration can also b e heard on the closing song.
Kharon plays a musical styles that takes the melodic and technical style of Norwegian black metal from the 90's and mixes it with death metal to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Mythology, Darkness and Death themes.
In my opinion Kharon are a very great sounding old school, melodic and technical mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Destination Hell" "The Plague Returns To The Northlands" and "Deception". 8 out of 10.
